The drama at the PDC World Darts Championship reached a new level as reigning champion Luke Littler found himself in a fiery confrontation with the Alexandra Palace crowd during his fourth-round match on Monday, 30th December 2025.
A Hostile Reception for the Favourite
Luke Littler, the 18-year-old world number one and tournament favourite, faced a surprising turn in crowd support during his clash with 2018 champion Rob Cross. The Ally Pally audience, often known for embracing Littler, actively booed the youngster, instead rallying behind the underdog, Cross.
Littler had stormed into the tournament, defeating Darius Labanauskas, David Davies, and Mensur Suljovic with ease. However, against a resurgent Cross—who had beaten Cor Dekker, Ian White, and Damon Heta—the match proved a tougher battle, both on the oche and with the spectators.
Littler's Fiery On-Stage Response
Visibly frustrated by the crowd's antics during the match, Littler channelled his emotions to secure a 4-2 victory and a place in the quarter-finals. His reaction, however, truly captured headlines during his post-match interview with TV cameras, which was again met with boos.
In a stunning outburst, Littler retorted: "Am I bothered? Really, am I bothered?! Really not bothered! Can I just say one thing? You guys pay for the tickets and you pay for my prize money so thank you, thank you for my money! Thank you for booing me."
He added, "It was hostile, nobody wanted me to win, but yet again I proved them wrong."
Expecting 'The Worst' in Next Round
Speaking to the press later, the teenager admitted he had lost his head but stood by his resilience. "I expect the worst on New Year’s Day, whoever I play," Littler stated, anticipating another rowdy reception in the next round.
He reflected on his growth, saying, "Two years ago I think I would have started throwing my darts left-handed, to be honest. That’s how much I’ve grown and that’s how much I’ve matured."
The incident highlights the intense pressure and shifting dynamic for Littler, who has gone from a popular newcomer to a dominant champion facing a different kind of crowd reaction as he aims to defend his title and claim the £1 million prize.
