Ladies Day Returns to Cheltenham with Crowds and Celebrity Glamour

Cheltenham's iconic Ladies Day has made a spectacular and triumphant return, with glamorous guests arriving in droves to celebrate the second day of the races. The event, dedicated to female attendees, was awash with faux fur, feathers, and high spirits as revellers embraced the decades-old title once more.

A Return to Tradition

In 2020, the event was renamed the more gender-neutral 'Festival Wednesday', and it underwent a further rebranding to 'Style Wednesday' in 2025. However, this year marks a significant comeback for the Ladies Day moniker, with attendees voting with their feet to support the traditional name. The decision has proven popular, as evidenced by the enthusiastic turnout and festive atmosphere.

Record Attendance and Recovery

On Tuesday, a remarkable 57,242 racegoers flocked to the famous Cheltenham course, signalling a strong recovery for the festival. This follows 2025, which recorded the lowest attendance numbers in a decade. Many are predicting that Cheltenham will see a robust resurgence this year, buoyed by the return of Ladies Day and enhanced visitor experiences.

Enhanced Visitor Experience

For the first time, racegoers are permitted to drink in any area around the course, a new policy that has been warmly received. Additionally, prosecco has been added to the bar menu, and Guinness prices are notably cheaper than last year, further boosting the celebratory mood. These changes have contributed to a lively and inclusive environment for all attendees.

Celebrity and Royal Presence

The event was graced by a host of celebrities and royal guests, adding to the glamour and excitement. Notable figures included Made In Chelsea's Georgia Toffolo, broadcaster Claire Balding, darts player Luke Littler, and actor James Nesbitt. Royal attendees featured Queen Camilla, Princess Anne, Zara and Mike Tindall, and Carole Middleton, the Princess of Wales' mother. Their presence underscored the event's prestige and appeal.

Fashion and Festivities

Revellers were dressed to the nines in tweed and faux fur, showcasing their best moves and high spirits just metres away from the celebrity guests. The combination of elegant fashion, free-flowing drinks, and vibrant partying created an unforgettable atmosphere, reinforcing why Ladies Day remains a cornerstone of the Cheltenham Festival.

The successful return of Ladies Day highlights the enduring appeal of tradition in the face of modern rebranding efforts. With record crowds, celebrity glamour, and enhanced amenities, Cheltenham is poised for a standout year, celebrating both its heritage and its future in style.
