NFL Star Critically Wounded in Manhattan Altercation

New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd remains hospitalised after being shot in the abdomen during a violent confrontation that began with strangers mocking his fashion choices. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning outside Sei Less, an Asian fusion restaurant in Midtown Manhattan.

Chaotic Scene Unfolds After Birthday Celebration

Boyd had been celebrating a friend's birthday with two teammates and another companion when the trouble began. According to NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny, the group encountered strangers who began "chirping them" about their outfits as they entered the popular dining spot. The situation escalated when one of the strangers demanded, "Do you think you're better than us?"

The football player and his friends spent approximately ten minutes inside the establishment before deciding to leave due to the uncomfortable atmosphere. At around 2 a.m., the same group confronted them again outside, renewing their taunts about clothing choices.

Argument Turns Violent as Gunman Opens Fire

What began as verbal harassment quickly turned physical, culminating in one of the strangers producing a firearm. Chief Kenny described the scene as "pretty chaotic" with an estimated 50 to 60 people present when shots were fired.

The bullet struck Boyd in the abdomen, travelling to his lung and becoming lodged in his pulmonary artery. Emergency Medical Services responded promptly, transporting the athlete to NYC Health and Hospitals/Bellevue in critical but stable condition.

Police confirmed there's no indication the attackers recognised Boyd or his companions as professional athletes. The suspected shooter fled the scene on foot before entering a white BMW approximately two blocks away.

Recovery Progress and Ongoing Manhunt

Boyd shared encouraging news about his recovery on Instagram this Wednesday, posting a photograph from his hospital bed. "God is real, God is powerful!" he wrote. "I'm sorry I have no words at the moment... Just grateful! I'm coming along, starting to breathe on my own now."

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn described Boyd as sounding "upbeat" during their conversation, noting that both the player and his family remained in good spirits despite the traumatic event.

Meanwhile, NYPD investigators have released a description of the suspect and are appealing for public assistance. The man was last seen wearing:

  • A black cap
  • Black sweatshirt and pants
  • Multi-coloured sneakers
  • Carrying a black book bag

The investigation continues as authorities work to identify and apprehend the individual responsible for the shooting.
