Jay Cutler's Bizarre House Break-In & DUI Arrest Revealed
Jay Cutler's House Break-In & DUI Sentence

Former Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler, once known for his formidable arm and unconventional personality, finds himself back in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. A former teammate has revealed a bizarre incident where Cutler broke into his home in the early hours, while the ex-NFL star also recently served a jail sentence for a driving under the influence (DUI) charge in Tennessee.

The Unconventional Wake-Up Call

Speaking on the 'This Is Football' podcast, former Bears offensive lineman Kyle Long shared a startling story about his unique relationship with Cutler. Long described the quarterback as a non-traditional figure, suggesting he was "born in the wrong century" and comparing him to a solitary Kevin Costner character from 'Dances with Wolves'.

The anecdote centred on a night out where the pair had been drinking. Long recalled that Cutler had arranged transport home for them. However, the following morning at precisely 6:00 AM, Long awoke to find someone had entered his apartment.

"Somebody had broken into my house at 6:00 AM, and it was Jay Cutler," Long revealed. He described it as a "soft break in," likely because he had left his door unlocked. The most surprising detail was that Cutler was holding his child during the incident.

Cutler's motive, according to Long, was to ensure they made it to their workout on time. "He was like, 'We can have fun, but we got to...'" Long explained, adding that the quarterback cared in a "different way."

Legal Troubles and a Jail Sentence

This peculiar story emerges against the backdrop of Cutler's recent legal issues. Last month, police in Franklin, a suburb of Nashville, Tennessee, released bodycam footage from the ex-quarterback's October 2024 arrest.

The incident began when Cutler rear-ended another vehicle. When asked by an officer how much alcohol he had consumed, Cutler initially replied "none." After being advised not to lie, he changed his answer to "a little bit." He subsequently refused to take a field sobriety test.

Cutler was arrested without resistance and faced charges for DUI and gun possession. He later struck a plea deal with prosecutors, which resulted in the weapons charge being dropped. For the misdemeanor DUI, he was sentenced to four days in jail.

Ultimately, the former 11th overall draft pick from Vanderbilt served only two-and-a-half days of his brief sentence. His punishment also included one year of unsupervised probation, mandatory attendance at a DUI safety class, and a $350 fine.

Ongoing Fallout and Personal Life

While his criminal case is resolved, Cutler still faces a civil lawsuit from the driver of the vehicle he hit. The plaintiff claims to have "endured physical and mental suffering and the loss of enjoyment of life" due to the collision.

This period has also seen continued public tension with his ex-wife, reality television star Kristin Cavallari. The couple, who share three children—Camden (13), Jaxon (11), and Saylor (9)—finalised their divorce in April 2020 after seven years of marriage.

In August, Cutler publicly refuted Cavallari's claim that she "never got a penny" from their split, calling her comments "reckless" and "borderline slander." This ongoing public dispute adds another layer to the complex picture of the former NFL Pro Bowler's life after football, marked by unconventional behaviour and legal challenges.
