Antonio Jimenez, a 24-year-old pitching prospect for the Giants, suffered multiple serious injuries when a red SUV collided with two scooters in his hometown of San Pedro de Macoris. The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Monday morning in front of the Altice telecommunications company offices on 27 February Street.

According to local media reports from conexion23com, three men were pronounced dead at the scene. They have been identified as Alfredo Garcia, 28, Victor de Jesus, and Israel Carpio. The ages of De Jesus and Carpio have not yet been confirmed.

Jimenez's Serious Injuries and Career

Jimenez was rushed to hospital after sustaining what medical professionals described as multiple traumas. His injuries include fractures to both his femur and spine, along with significant lacerations. The Dominican pitcher remains under intensive medical care as doctors work to stabilise his condition.

The San Francisco Giants organisation released an official statement to the Daily Mail confirming their awareness of the situation. "We are aware of the tragic car accident involving one of our players, Antonio Jimenez, and are in the process of gathering more information," the statement read. "Out of respect for everyone affected and due to the ongoing investigation, we will refrain from further comment at this time."

Baseball Career and Prospects

Jimenez, who plays for the Giants' minor league affiliate team, the Sacramento River Cats, was first activated by the organisation in December of last year. The Dominican native had previously spent time with MLB's San Francisco Giants during spring training and is also listed with the Dominican Winter League team Toros del Este.

His professional baseball journey began when he was signed as a free agent by the Tampa Bay Rays back in 2018 before joining the Giants organisation last year. Throughout his minor league career, Jimenez has demonstrated considerable talent, recording an ERA of 3.43 across 422 innings while striking out 471 batters.

This season, the pitcher had started three games for the River Cats, achieving a 3.55 ERA through 45.2 innings with 35 hits, 19 runs and an impressive 56 strikeouts. His performance had marked him as a player to watch within the Giants' development system.

The Dominican National Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision, though no further details have been released at this time. The baseball community now waits anxiously for updates on Jimenez's condition as he continues his fight for recovery.
