Ferguson hails 'outstanding' new Man Utd goalkeeper

Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson has delivered his glowing verdict on the club's recent form, singling out new goalkeeper Senne Lammens for particular praise and describing his performances as 'outstanding'.

Ferguson's Verdict on United's Resurgence

The iconic former manager, whose opinion still carries immense weight at Old Trafford, expressed his optimism about the team's direction under current boss Ruben Amorim. Ferguson's comments come as Manchester United are enjoying their best run of the Amorim era, having gone unbeaten in their last five matches across all competitions.

Speaking to Raceday RTV, Ferguson highlighted the significant impact of the club's summer signings. 'Well, they are, the signs… the manager has had some good signs,' Ferguson stated. 'Particularly the goalkeeper has been outstanding, he’s only played three or four games and he’s looking really good.'

The Rise of Senne Lammens

The Belgian shot-stopper, Senne Lammens, arrived at the club in a somewhat surprising £18million deadline-day move from Royal Antwerp. This acquisition came after Andre Onana was allowed to leave on loan and deputy Altay Bayindir failed to cement his place.

Lammens, who had made just 52 appearances in the Belgian Pro League prior to his transfer, was considered an unknown quantity. However, the 23-year-old has quickly established himself as the new first-choice goalkeeper, demonstrating an assured presence between the posts.

His debut against Sunderland resulted in a clean sheet, and he played a crucial role in securing a memorable victory over Liverpool, helping the team climb the Premier League table.

A New Era at Old Trafford

Ferguson also acknowledged the contributions of other new arrivals, mentioning forwards Mbeumo and Cunha, who joined from Brentford and Wolves respectively. He emphasised the importance of patience and the expectation of success at a club of United's stature.

'Of course, Mbeumo and Cunha, the new players from Wolves and Brentford, they’ve added to it,' Ferguson noted. 'I hope the manager gets a bit of success because at United you need to have success. The signs are getting better. I think back-to-back wins is something teams like United should always expect.'

Drawing parallels with his own successful tenure, Ferguson relied on world-class goalkeepers like Peter Schmeichel and Edwin van der Sar. The Scot also signed David de Gea shortly before his 2013 retirement, who went on to become a club stalwart. The search for a consistent number one appears to have taken a positive turn with the emergence of Lammens.

With Ferguson's endorsement and a growing wave of optimism, Manchester United fans will be hoping this current unbeaten streak marks the beginning of a sustained period of success under Ruben Amorim's leadership.
