Coleman provides positive injury update as rehabilitation progresses

Everton captain Seamus Coleman has offered a fresh update on his recovery from the knee ligament injury sustained in May. The 34-year-old full-back has been sidelined since damaging his knee during the 2-2 draw with Leicester City, but has confirmed his rehabilitation is going according to plan.

Initial fears that Coleman had suffered anterior cruciate ligament damage proved unfounded, though the injury still required surgery before the end of last season. The Republic of Ireland international has since been working at Everton's Finch Farm training base to regain full strength.

Speaking to Off The Ball, Coleman said: 'I am just working away in the gym, rehab, and getting it strong again, but everything is going well and everything is going to plan. I'm looking forward to getting back whenever that is.' The defender signed a new one-year contract with the club in June.

Coleman also discussed his love for Gaelic football, revealing it was his first sporting passion before choosing to pursue soccer with Sligo Rovers at age 18. He attended Sunday's All-Ireland football final between Dublin and Kerry, where his cousin Dessie Farrell manages the Dubs.
