Everton punished a series of errors from Dundee substitute goalkeeper Harry Sharp to start their pre-season with a 4-0 victory at Dens Park. Goals from Beto, Thierno Barry, Harvey Foster, and Dwight McNeil secured the win, watched by almost 4,400 fans.
First-Half Breakthrough
An even first half saw Everton take the lead just before the break. Beto's deflected effort, taking a touch off Aaron Donnelly, left goalkeeper Kieran O'Hara with little chance. Earlier, Mark Travers saved from Charlie Reilly, and Beto was denied by a last-gasp challenge from Owen Bevan after a lovely through-ball from Harrison Armstrong.
Tyler Dibling, who grew into the game after a slow start, provided an intelligent pass for Beto before the goal. The midfielder showed increasing confidence, driving at defenders and testing left back Idris Odutayo.
Second-Half Dominance
Half-time substitute Thierno Barry doubled Everton's lead by charging down Sharp's clearance, with the ball looping off his body and over the line. The goal came after a period of pressure from the Blues.
Finch Farm prospect Harvey Foster produced the highlight of the second period. The midfielder intercepted a Sharp pass and rifled a first-time finish from 25 yards out to make it 3-0. His celebration was shared with team-mates and the away end.
Youth Prospects Impress
Dwight McNeil added a fourth goal after another Sharp error, finishing from close range after being teed up by Malik Olayiwola and Carlos Alcaraz. Olayiwola, who made Moyes' bench last season, kept his composure in the build-up.
Right-back George Finney, on loan at Ayr last season, provided several dangerous crosses, one almost met by teen starlet Braiden Graham. Centre-back Will Tamen made a brilliant last-ditch block to deny Dundee a consolation.
Positive Performances
David Moyes will take pleasure from the win over a Scottish Premiership side whose season is already underway, having played five friendlies and two cup games. Harrison Armstrong was composed in midfield, while Jake O'Brien dominated at centre-back. Summer signing Tyrique George and Adam Aznou provided a threat down the left.
Dibling, after a slow start, grew into the game and showed willingness to cross and shoot. He carried momentum into the second half before being substituted after Everton took control.
