England Fans Spot Major Error in FA's Squad Announcement for Uruguay and Japan
England supporters have identified a significant error in the Football Association's latest squad announcement for the upcoming March internationals against Uruguay and Japan. Manager Thomas Tuchel has unveiled a 35-man squad, but eagle-eyed fans quickly noticed that defender Marc Guehi was assigned to the wrong club.
Guehi's Incorrect Club Listing Causes Confusion
The FA's official announcement claimed that Marc Guehi, who has earned 26 caps for the Three Lions, still plays for Crystal Palace. However, the 25-year-old defender actually left Selhurst Park last summer to join Manchester City in a £20 million transfer deal. Since joining Pep Guardiola's side, Guehi has made 11 appearances and scored one goal for the Premier League champions.
Social media platforms were flooded with comments from confused England fans. One supporter remarked: "I didn't know Marc Guehi still plays for Palace." Another added: "Isn't Marc Guehi with Manchester City now?" while a third questioned: "Why am I seeing Marc Guehi (Crystal Palace)?"
Tuchel's Expanded Squad Selection Strategy
When asked about his decision to name such a large 35-man squad, Thomas Tuchel explained his strategic approach. "We decided to divide it into basically two camps almost," the England manager stated. "So we bring players in that we haven't seen who haven't played so much to open up the picture, and the competition for plane tickets to the US."
Tuchel elaborated further: "Then from Friday and Saturday, a group of players will come into camp – ten or eleven players who get a rest before and we will then go with a new group and mix of players into the match against Japan."
Competition for World Cup Places Intensifies
Guehi faces serious competition in the latest squad as he attempts to maintain his position as first-choice defender ahead of the upcoming World Cup. He has been joined in the squad by Manchester City teammate John Stones, despite the latter's injury-hit season.
The defensive selections also include Newcastle's Dan Burn, Aston Villa's Ezri Konsa, and Bayer Leverkusen's Jarell Quansah. Meanwhile, Manchester United's Harry Maguire and AC Milan star Fikayo Tomori have both earned recalls to the national team setup.
