Cyriel Dessers has admitted his early days at Rangers were far from smooth, but the Nigerian striker insists he's now thriving at Ibrox – and even reassured his mother not to fret over his slow start.
The 28-year-old arrived in Glasgow this summer in a £4.5 million move from Cremonese, but initially struggled to find his footing under former boss Michael Beale. With just two goals in his first 11 appearances, doubts crept in over whether he could fill the void left by Alfredo Morelos.
Dessers' Message to His Mum: 'Don’t Worry!'
"I told my mum not to worry," Dessers revealed. "I knew it would take time to adapt, but I always believed in myself. Now, with the new manager [Philippe Clement], things are clicking."
The striker has looked sharper in recent weeks, netting crucial goals in the Europa League and showing glimpses of the predatory instincts that convinced Rangers to sign him.
Clement's Impact on Dessers' Form
Since Philippe Clement took charge, Dessers has felt a renewed sense of confidence. "The gaffer has been clear with me about my role," he said. "He wants me to be aggressive, to trust my movement, and the goals will come."
Rangers fans, initially skeptical, are slowly warming to the forward. His work rate and physicality have won over the Ibrox faithful, even if the goals haven’t flowed as freely as hoped.
Looking Ahead: More to Come
With a busy fixture schedule ahead, Dessers is determined to prove his worth. "I love it here," he said. "The fans, the atmosphere, the pressure – it’s exactly what I wanted. I’m ready to deliver."
If he maintains his upward trajectory, the Nigerian could yet become a key figure in Rangers’ quest for silverware this season.
