Real Madrid Star Thibaut Courtois Ventures into Electric Powerboat Ownership
Real Madrid and Belgium goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has expanded his sporting portfolio by becoming a co-owner of an electric powerboat team in the E1 Series. The 33-year-old shot-stopper is partnering with Sierra Racing Club's Team Sierra through his sports investment platform, NXTPLAY Capital.
Joining a Star-Studded Lineup of Team Owners
Courtois now joins an elite group of celebrity team owners in the Saudi-backed championship. This impressive roster includes tennis legend Rafael Nadal, NBA superstar LeBron James, seven-time NFL Super Bowl champion Tom Brady, and acclaimed actor Will Smith. The E1 Series features global races at prestigious venues such as Italy's Lake Como, Monaco, Luanda, Miami, and the Bahamas.
Courtois expressed his enthusiasm for the venture, stating: "Sierra Racing Club represents exactly the profile NXTPLAY looks for in a sports asset. A team with a strong identity, technical ambition, and real potential to become one of the reference names in the championship."
Courtois' Current Injury and Real Madrid's Crucial Fixtures
The announcement comes as Courtois is sidelined with a leg injury sustained last month. The Belgian goalkeeper has been ruled out for several weeks due to a quadriceps muscle injury, which will cause him to miss key matches for Real Madrid.
Real Madrid are set to resume La Liga action on Saturday with an away game against Mallorca. Currently, Alvaro Arbeloa's team trails Barcelona by four points in the title race, with nine games remaining in the season.
Champions League Quarter-Final Showdown Ahead
Following the league fixture, Real Madrid will shift focus to the Champions League. They are scheduled to host Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich in the first leg of their quarter-final clash next Tuesday. The return leg will take place at the Allianz Arena on April 15.
Real Madrid advanced to the quarter-finals with a commanding 5-1 aggregate victory over Manchester City in the round of 16. Meanwhile, Bayern Munich secured their spot by thrashing Italian side Atalanta 10-2 on aggregate.
The two European giants previously met in the Champions League semi-finals in 2024, where Real Madrid claimed a narrow victory before going on to defeat Borussia Dortmund in the final.
