Chelsea footballer Wesley Fofana has been branded a 'habitual offender' by a magistrate after being found guilty of his tenth driving offence. The defender, who failed to appear in court, was hit with a £1,062 fine and three penalty points on his already suspended licence.
A History of Reckless Driving
The latest incident occurred in the early hours of February 27, 2024, in Twickenham, West London. Prosecutors stated Fofana was caught by an automatic camera driving his £300,000 white Rolls Royce Cullinan at 54mph in a 40mph zone on the A316 Chertsey Road.
This is merely the most recent entry in a lengthy record of traffic violations for the £70 million signing. The court heard he is currently disqualified from driving until May 13, 2027 for a previous dangerous driving conviction. His lawyer, Stephen Oldham, revealed Fofana's licence already had 47 points from prior offences and that he would need to retake his driving test.
Substantial Fines and Previous Bans
Magistrate Alan Jefferson did not mince words, stating it was "obvious that he's a habitual offender". The fine was calculated based on Fofana's substantial income, reported to be over £200,000 per week. The £1,062 penalty is comprised of a £666 financial penalty, a £266 surcharge, and £130 in court costs.
This follows a series of serious incidents. In May 2024, Fofana was banned and fined £7,569 at Lavender Hill Magistrates' Court after accumulating a staggering 38 points for eight speeding offences. Later that year, in October, he was spared jail but given a further 18-month ban and 300 hours of community service for dangerously overtaking on a motorway hard shoulder in Surrey while driving a white Lamborghini Urus.
A Pattern of Dangerous Behaviour
The defender's reckless conduct extends beyond speeding. In a separate and notorious incident, Fofana ran over EastEnders actor Dean Gaffney, leaving the star with a broken collarbone.
Despite his lucrative career, which affords him a £3.5 million seven-bedroom mansion near Chelsea's Cobham training ground, Fofana's time on the pitch has been limited by persistent injuries. He has started just one game per week on average and featured in only three of Chelsea's last six matches.
The latest ruling reinforces a troubling pattern of behaviour for the 25-year-old Frenchman, whose repeated disregard for road safety continues to result in legal sanctions and public condemnation.
