Chelsea FA Cup Winner Marvin Hinton Dies at 85

Chelsea have announced the death of former defender Marvin Hinton at the age of 85. The club released a statement expressing their sadness at the passing of the FA Cup winner, who made 344 appearances for the Blues and won three trophies.

Hinton was part of the Chelsea squad that won the FA Cup in 1970, the club's first triumph in the competition. He also helped the team secure the League Cup in 1965 and the Cup Winners' Cup in 1971.

Born in London, Hinton began his professional career at Charlton Athletic, making 14 first-team appearances before joining Chelsea for a fee of £30,000 in 1963. He spent 13 years at Stamford Bridge, leaving in 1976 for a brief spell at non-league Barnet before retiring that same year.

Known as 'Super Marv', Hinton was also selected for Alf Ramsey's provisional England squad for the 1966 World Cup but did not make the final cut. Reflecting on his playing style, Hinton once said: 'I liked to pull it down and shuffle it, pass it, get it back again and then set them off.'

Tributes poured in from fans, with one describing him as 'a true Chelsea legend' and another recalling the pleasure of watching him play. The cause of death has not been confirmed.
