Dani Ceballos has reportedly instructed Real Madrid manager Alvaro Arbeloa to cease all communication with him following an explosive altercation at the club's training ground, according to Spanish outlet Marca.
Background of the Dispute
The former Arsenal midfielder, who has been sidelined since returning from injury at the start of April, requested a meeting with Arbeloa last week. The encounter turned into an 'unpleasant face-to-face meeting,' with tensions already simmering from a previous disagreement between the two. Following the meeting, Ceballos allegedly informed his teammates that he had asked Arbeloa not to contact him again.
Fallout and Team Selection
Ceballos was subsequently omitted from Real Madrid's matchday squad for their clash against Real Betis last Friday. Arbeloa's side conceded a stoppage-time equalizer, resulting in a 1-1 draw. This result allowed Barcelona to close in on a second consecutive La Liga title after defeating Getafe the following day.
Real Madrid reportedly believe Ceballos deliberately provoked the conflict to justify his lack of playing time and facilitate a summer transfer. The 29-year-old has one year remaining on his contract and turned down a move to Marseille last summer, with Real Betis emerging as a likely destination again this season. Ceballos began his professional career at Betis before joining Real Madrid in 2017.
