Ruben Amorim is showing signs of extreme dejection and isolation, according to a body language expert, after Manchester United's 3-1 defeat at Brentford on Saturday. The result leaves the Portuguese coach with just 34 points from 33 games since taking over last November, intensifying pressure on his position.
Darren Stanton, a body language expert, analysed Amorim's behaviour during the match for the Manchester Evening News. He noted that Amorim was seen crouched in a 'fetal position' with his hands on his head, which Stanton described as 'the personification of dejection, negativity and feeling really, really bad'. Stanton added: 'Emotionally, he's in the worst place he's been in since he started the role.'
Amorim was also observed with his head down and hand on the back of his neck, a gesture Stanton called 'the ultimate pacifying gesture' indicating 'shame'. When seated in the technical area, Amorim appeared to be 'almost praying, making himself small', leading Stanton to predict he could be gone 'within three to five days'.
After the final whistle, as players approached away fans, Stanton noted that 'none of the players are stood with Ruben Amorim and he's been isolated'. He concluded: 'He knows in his heart now that he's been given ample opportunity and it's nearly game over for him.'
