Sir David Beckham was among thousands of England fans left emotional after the Three Lions lost 2-1 to Argentina in the Men's World Cup semi-final on July 15, 2026. The football icon, 51, held his head in his hands and fought back tears as the match concluded.
Victoria Beckham Comforts Husband
Victoria Beckham, 52, was seen consoling her husband after the defeat. She wrapped her arm around him and rested her head on his shoulder as he looked over the pitch with arms crossed. The couple attended the match in Atlanta with their sons Romeo, 23, Cruz, 21, and daughter Harper, 15, as well as Cruz's girlfriend Jackie Apostel, 30. Cruz, wearing an England t-shirt, was also emotional as his father hugged him.
Victoria made a point of celebrating England's goal at the 55th minute, after being criticized for her muted reaction to Jude Bellingham's goal the previous week. She leaped into the air, hugged her husband, and cheered as fans erupted into song. David had previously defended her, writing: 'She was celebrating inside I promise her reactions were slightly slower than mine.'
Other Celebrities at the Match
Sir Mick Jagger was spotted walking into the stadium, while Louis Tomlinson, 34, attended with girlfriend Zara McDermott. The former One Direction star told Fifa it was an 'absolute honour' to be at the match, calling Bellingham his favourite player and a 'great role model'. Millie Bobby Brown also attended, sharing on Instagram that she was 'so proud to be English' and 'so proud of my team'. She wore jeans with a Union Jack on the back and a blue England t-shirt.
McFly's Danny Jones posted a video of kick-off, and Ross Kemp shared a shirtless selfie before the game, kissing his jersey three times and yelling 'come on England'. After Gordon scored, he chanted 'it's a goal' and said he was 'so proud'. However, he went quiet on social media as Argentina took the lead.
Reactions on Social Media
Piers Morgan wrote on X: 'This has been a Tuchel tactical masterclass. Take us home, Thomas! 👊👊👊👊' He later added a simple 'ffs' after Argentina's goals. Liam Gallagher took a calmer approach, stating: 'Respect to the lads it's nobody's GOD given right to win the WC congratulations to Argentina, best team won onwards n sideways LG x' He added: 'England won't win a WC until we get street wise and that goes for the managers, it's all got too technical, let the kids run wild.'
Alan Carr joked he was 'watching football with the mrs' as he posted a photo with Susie Dent, both holding pints. He had his face painted with the St George's flag and wore a jersey, later sharing a snap giving the middle finger—a sentiment felt by many after the semi-final.
