Jet2 has issued two travel warnings for passengers flying from Faro Airport in mainland Portugal and Madeira Airport this weekend, as sporting events are expected to cause traffic disruption. The airline and package holiday provider urged travellers to plan extra time for their journeys to the airports, while reassuring that all flights are operating as scheduled.
From July 16 to July 19, the Annual Motorcycle Rally hosted by Moto Clube Faro is taking place in Faro, Algarve. Jet2 warned this could “result in increased traffic around the airport.” The airline added: “If you’re affected, please allow extra time for your journey to the airport as we're operating all our flights as scheduled. Please arrive at the airport at least two hours before your departure time. Check-in closes 40 minutes before your flights scheduled time of departure.”
Madeira Cycling Tour Causes Road Closures
In Funchal, Madeira, the 51st Madeira Cycling Tour is scheduled for July 18 and July 19. This event will lead to road closures and “traffic disruption is expected in and around the area,” according to Jet2. The airline repeated its advice for affected passengers to allow extra travel time and arrive at least two hours before departure, with check-in closing 40 minutes before the scheduled departure time.
EU Entry/Exit System Reminder for Summer Travelers
Passengers flying to and from Europe this summer are also reminded of the EU’s Entry/Exit System (EES), which requires third-country nationals, including British citizens, to provide fingerprints and a photograph at the border to create a digital record. This record is valid for three years and replaces passport stamping. Since its launch in April this year, experiences have varied, with some passengers facing long queues. Some travellers may undergo the full EES process, while others may only have one biometric data point collected, such as a photograph. Further details on the rules for adults and children are available on the government's website.
Jet2's warnings come as millions of families prepare for summer holidays, with the airline emphasising that all flights are operating normally despite the expected disruptions.
