Man Utd 4-4 Bournemouth: Amorim Blames First Half for Points Drop
Amorim's verdict after Man Utd 4-4 Bournemouth thriller

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim delivered a frank assessment of his team's failure to secure victory after a remarkable 4-4 draw with Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Sunday, 15 December 2025.

Amorim's Disappointment After Thrilling Draw

In a Premier League encounter that swung wildly from end to end, United took the lead on three separate occasions but were pegged back each time by a resilient Bournemouth side. The result leaves Amorim ruing missed opportunities, particularly during a dominant first-half display.

The Cherries' late equaliser from Junior Kroupi in the 84th minute ensured the points were shared, despite United appearing to have clinched the win just minutes earlier through Matheus Cunha.

A Rollercoaster of Goals at Old Trafford

The scoring opened early when Amad Diallo headed United in front, only for Antoine Semenyo to level for the visitors. Casemiro restored United's advantage before half-time with a powerful header from a corner.

The second half exploded into life, with Bournemouth turning the game on its head. Evanilson and Marcus Tavernier struck in quick succession to put the away side 3-2 ahead. United captain Bruno Fernandes then curled a sublime free-kick into the top corner to make it 3-3.

When substitute Matheus Cunha calmly finished to put United 4-3 up with just over ten minutes remaining, a home win seemed likely. However, United's defensive frailties surfaced once more as Kroupi found the net, with goalkeeper Senne Lammens later forced into a vital stop from David Brooks to preserve a point.

Where Amorim Believes the Game Was Lost

Speaking to BBC Sport and Sky Sports after the match, Amorim was clear in his analysis. While many might focus on the late concession, the Portuguese coach believes the foundation for the dropped points was laid much earlier.

"It might look like we lost the two points in the second half, but I think we lost them in the first half," Amorim stated. "We dominated and created so many chances. We had to go to half-time with a different result."

He praised his team's attacking intent and the spectacle they created for fans, but emphasised a recurring issue. "We need to find ways of closing the games because this happened many times," he admitted. "It's the details that we need to work on, understand the momentum of the game, and we need to be clinical."

Amorim also referenced a loss of concentration early in the second half, similar to a previous match against Nottingham Forest, which allowed Bournemouth back into the contest. Despite the frustration, he acknowledged the effort of his players and the many positive aspects of their performance, insisting they created enough chances to have won the game comfortably.
