Former Arsenal Star Aliadiere Backs Arteta Despite Title Stumble
Aliadiere: Keep Arteta Even If Arsenal Miss Title Again

Former Arsenal Star Urges Club to Keep Faith in Arteta

Former Arsenal forward Jeremie Aliadiere has delivered a strong verdict on Mikel Arteta's future, insisting the club should not sack the manager even if they fail to secure the Premier League title this season. The Gunners remain top of the table as the campaign enters its final weeks, but their lead has been eroded by Manchester City, who sit just three points behind with a game in hand.

Title Race Pressure Mounts on Arsenal

Arsenal's recent stutter in form has sparked debate over Arteta's position, with some pundits suggesting his job could be at risk if the title eludes the North London side. However, Aliadiere, a product of the Arsenal academy, firmly believes dismissing Arteta would be a grave mistake. In an interview with AceOdds.com, the Frenchman highlighted the manager's impressive work in transforming the club.

"My personal opinion is that I would never get rid of Mikel," Aliadiere stated. "I think the job he has done and the way he's transformed the club, the players he's brought in and how competitive the club is in the space of a few seasons is so impressive."

Aliadiere Emphasises Arteta's Progress and Learning Curve

Aliadiere argued that even without silverware this term, Arsenal should view it as a learning experience for Arteta, who is in his first senior managerial role. He acknowledged fan expectations given the club's significant investment but stressed the team has remained competitive.

"I would take it as another learning curve and another season under his belt if Arsenal don't win anything this season," he explained. "People forget that this is his first managerial job as a number one and they expect so much."

He added that in a worst-case scenario where Arsenal finish trophyless, it would still represent progression. "It will be so, so frustrating and disappointing but it will also be another ladder climbed in terms of progression," Aliadiere said.

Call for Continuity and Summer Investment

Instead of a managerial change, Aliadiere advocated for continuity, warning that sacking Arteta would mean starting from scratch. He pointed out that Arsenal are close to success in every competition and urged the club to back Arteta with funds in the summer transfer window.

"Give him more money in the summer to bring players in, let some players go, bring in fresh legs, ideas and blood and go again next season," he recommended. "Why jeopardize that and start again with someone who doesn't have the DNA of the club? Arsenal are so close so I would be looking to bring in better players."

His comments come amid mixed opinions from other former players, with Robert Pires suggesting Arteta could face the sack if the title is lost, while Jamie Carragher has disagreed. As the title race intensifies, Aliadiere's stance underscores a belief in long-term project over short-term reaction.
