Adam Thomas has spoken about how his psoriatic arthritis affected his time on I'm A Celebrity... South Africa, admitting that hiding his pain proved exhausting. The 37-year-old actor, diagnosed with the autoimmune condition in 2023 while appearing on Strictly Come Dancing, shared his struggles in camp as he rested and told campmates he was unwell.
In February, Thomas posted an emotional Instagram video showing him administering his own injection for the first time. He described the illness as an autoimmune disease where his immune system attacks his body, causing significant pain and swelling. "One day you're completely fine, and then the next day you're in that much pain you can barely even get out of bed," he said, adding that he often smiled through discomfort and pretended everything was fine.
During the ITV show, David Haye branded him "useless" when Thomas said he could not take part in a Bushtucker Trial, leading to viewer accusations of bullying. Fans took to social media to express their support, with one writing: "Love Adam with my whole heart and it's disgusting seeing anybody trying to tear him apart." In a heartfelt Instagram message, Thomas said Haye had pushed him "to his limits" but acknowledged the boxer had subsequently apologised.
Haye, who has since been voted out, defended his behaviour to hosts Ant and Dec, insisting there was no bad blood. He referenced his boxing career and said he did not recognise the claim that a paid TV show was the hardest thing someone had been through. "I've spoken to Adam, I've said my piece," he added.
