A former serviceman and leading voice for the Invictus Games has described Prince Harry as a 'true leader' who remains deeply committed to the veteran community despite personal distractions. David Wiseman, a colleague and friend of the Duke, shared the seven-word statement with PEOPLE Magazine: 'He's through and through a true leader.'
Dedication to the Invictus Games
Prince Harry founded the Invictus Games in 2014, using the power of sport to 'inspire recovery, support rehabilitation and generate a wider understanding and respect for wounded, injured and sick Servicemen and women.' Wiseman emphasized that Harry has dedicated significant time and energy to the foundation, events, and preparations for the 2027 games. 'We're incredibly grateful that he's so committed, so dedicated, so passionate about the Invictus movement,' Wiseman added.
Personal Life Not a Distraction
Despite a 'distracting week' for Harry, Wiseman noted that the Duke draws energy from interacting with veterans. 'You can see that when he's in a room with [the veterans] he comes alive and he gets his energy from that,' Wiseman said. Harry attended the one-year countdown to the Invictus Games in Birmingham in July 2026, demonstrating his ongoing involvement.
Military Background
Prince Harry served 10 years in the British armed forces, completing two tours in Afghanistan and reaching the rank of Captain. He chose the Army over the Royal Navy, a departure from other royal family members. The Royal Family's official website states: 'Prince Harry is committed to ensuring that wounded servicemen and women, who have given so much for their country, should be given the respect and support they deserve to lead fulfilling lives post recovery.'
