Driver Appears in Court Over Fatal Crash Involving Anthony Joshua's Team

The driver of the vehicle involved in a tragic crash that resulted in the deaths of two members of heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua's team has made a court appearance in Nigeria. The incident, which occurred near Lagos in December, claimed the lives of Joshua's personal trainer Latif Ayodele and strength coach Sina Ghami, both aged 36.

Details of the Crash and Legal Proceedings

Anthony Joshua was travelling in the car with Ayodele and Ghami when it collided with a stationary lorry. Joshua was taken to hospital for treatment and later returned to the UK, where he attended the funerals of his friends. The driver, identified as Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, aged 46, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, reckless and negligent driving, driving without due care, and driving without a valid licence.

Kayode appeared at Sagamu Magistrates Court on Wednesday, where his case was adjourned to March 13 after prosecutors requested more time to prepare evidence. He has yet to enter a plea and did not speak during the hearing. Previously, in January, he was released from custody after being granted bail of approximately £2,600.

Anthony Joshua's Tribute and Legacy Efforts

Following the crash, Anthony Joshua, 36, paid a heartfelt tribute to his friends, vowing to support their families and help achieve their goals. He stated, 'My goal is to help their families and to help them achieve their goals, even though they may not be here in the physical. I will be saying my prayers, and I'm going to help them fulfil their dreams for their families.'

Joshua emphasized that a whole team is working to support the families, adding, 'There is a whole system that will be helping fulfil their legacy, fulfil their dreams. But I know in my corner of the world, I know what I'm doing, and I know what we're gonna do to continue there. I'm gonna do what's right by their family.' He described Ayodele and Ghami as very important players and brothers in his life.

In a personal gesture, Joshua has had the names of Ayodele and Ghami tattooed on his right arm, symbolizing his enduring connection and commitment to their memory.
