Harry Ledingham-Horn heads to Glasgow with growing confidence and big ambitions. He may be the youngest member of England's team sprint squad at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, but Harry Ledingham-Horn is no wide-eyed rookie.
Matt Richardson, Hamish Turnbull and Joe Truman will ride alongside the 22-year-old as England look to upgrade their silver medal from Birmingham 2022. In that final, Turnbull and Truman lost out to Australia, who were powered by current teammate Richardson, who switched his allegiance to his birthplace after the Olympics in 2024.
Ledingham-Horn said: “I think it's going to be really cool. Glasgow will always bring a really good crowd. I was there for the World Championships in 2023, not as a rider, as part of the crowd. We've got a good chance in the team sprint to win it all. So that's probably where I've been looking at our best chance, really. And then, individually, anything can happen, especially in keirin.”
Trinidad and Tobago's Nicholas Paul clinched the gold medal in Birmingham, but Truman could prove England's ace, as he regularly races in Japan’s domestic keirin competitions. Ledingham-Horn said: “It's a bit of a lottery event, so we'll try to go in with no expectations, really, and see what happens. You can get it really wrong tactically. Which means that some of the faster riders can usually beat you pretty easily. If they get it wrong tactically, or they're in the wrong place, or if they go too early then they leave themselves exposed. It's just not as easy to win as the fastest rider, as opposed to sprint.”
The Stoke-on-Trent native broke through at the 2023 British Cycling National Track Championships, winning the team sprint, before debuting for Great Britain at the 2024 UCI Track Cycling World Championships. At the 2025 edition in Santiago, he won silver in the team sprint and will fancy a first senior international title when he takes to the track in Glasgow.
He said: “My parents have come to watch, and I think I've got a few of my best mates coming as well. A lot of times cycling can feel quite niche, and when there's just loads going on, it feels like you're really part of something big and super special. I'm really excited to see what we can do, and if we can get on a podium together, you know, like, I'm really young enough to do that, so I think it's going to be amazing. To stand on the podium together would mean so much.”
