The White House has unleashed a fierce verbal assault on Joy Behar, the co-host of ABC's daytime talk show The View, following a controversial joke she made about President Donald Trump and the ongoing military conflict with Iran. The incendiary remarks have ignited a fresh political firestorm, highlighting the deep divisions surrounding Trump's foreign policy initiatives.
Behar's Provocative Quip Sparks Fury
During Wednesday's panel discussion on The View, the 83-year-old comedian addressed Trump's recent statement that Iran had gifted the United States "a very big present worth a tremendous amount of money" in relation to the war. Behar responded with a biting quip: "What's the gift, besides herpes?" This flippant remark immediately drew condemnation from the highest levels of government.
White House Delivers Scathing Rebuke
White House spokesperson Davis Ingle issued a blistering statement to Entertainment Weekly just hours after Behar's comments aired. Ingle did not mince words, labeling Behar "'Joyless' Behar" and describing her as "an extremely unlikeable, talentless hack with a poorly rated TV show who clearly suffers from a severe case of Trump Derangement Syndrome."
The statement went on to vigorously defend President Trump, 79, and his military campaign in Iran. "Operation Epic Fury continues to prove it is a resounding success, which is destroying the rogue Iranian regime's national security threat to the American people," Ingle asserted. He claimed that Iranian retaliatory attacks have declined by 90 percent due to the Department of War's efforts to dismantle Iran's ballistic missile capabilities.
Behar Defends Her Position
Behar did not retreat from her criticism following the initial joke. When conservative guest co-host Abby Huntsman suggested she might be undermining the military, Behar fired back: "Don't make it sound like I'm against the military. I'm not. All my uncles, my father, they all fought, so don't make it sound like that. I'm talking about this particular, as he calls it, excursion into Iran. What have they accomplished so far?"
When Huntsman pointed out that the public lacks access to intelligence briefings, Behar delivered another sharp retort: "The word intelligence and him in the same sentence should not go together."
Ongoing Debate About Iran Conflict
Trump's war on Iran, which began on February 28, has been a recurring topic of heated debate on The View. The panel discussion about joint U.S. and Israeli airstrikes earlier this month sparked particularly intense exchanges between regular co-hosts and guest Elisabeth Hasselbeck. Just last week, guest co-host Sara Eisen's defense of Trump's decision to initiate the conflict prompted laughter from the studio audience.
Ratings Contradiction
Ingle's characterization of The View as "poorly rated" appears to contradict network data. ABC's March 20 press release positioned the show at the top spot "in households and total viewers among all daytime network talk shows." Representatives for The View have not responded to requests for comment regarding the White House's attack.
The White House statement concluded with a strong endorsement of Trump's leadership, asserting that the President is "working tirelessly every single day to ensure the American military continues to be the greatest, most powerful fighting force in the world that will crush our enemies and defend our great Nation."
