Right-wing media commentator Tucker Carlson has claimed that President Donald Trump's Department of Justice could be building a criminal case against him. In a clip shared on X on Saturday evening, Carlson alleged that the CIA is 'preparing some kind of criminal referral' to the Justice Department based on a supposed crime.
Carlson, a former Fox News host, said investigators had read his text messages and that the probe relates to 'talking to people in Iran before the war.' He suggested the potential charge could be acting as an agent of a foreign power, possibly under the Foreign Agents Registration Act. However, he did not provide evidence for his claims.
The podcaster said he is 'not too worried about an actual criminal case,' arguing that he is not an agent of a foreign power and has never taken money from anybody. 'It's my job to talk to everybody all the time and try and figure out what's happening around the world,' he said. 'I'm also an American. I can talk to anybody. I have no secrets to divulge.'
Carlson has recently been critical of Trump's military campaign against Iran, calling it 'absolutely disgusting and evil.' Trump responded by saying Carlson had 'lost his way' and was 'not MAGA.' According to The New York Times, Carlson expressed his opposition to the war in three Oval Office meetings with Trump before the campaign launched on February 28.
