Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that four young players will join the England World Cup squad for warm-up friendlies in the United States. The additions are Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott, Fulham's Josh King, Liverpool winger Rio Ngumoha, and one other unnamed individual.
Purpose of the Additions
These players are being brought in to ensure a full squad for the upcoming friendlies against New Zealand and Costa Rica, scheduled for 6 and 10 June in Florida. This will allow for careful management of player minutes as the team prepares for the World Cup.
Delayed Arrivals for Key Players
Several key players will have delayed arrivals due to their involvement in the Champions League and Conference League finals. These include Arsenal's Eberechi Eze, Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka, and Noni Madueke, as well as Crystal Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson. Brighton's Jason Steele will also join the squad as a training goalkeeper, a role he has previously fulfilled.
England's World Cup campaign begins on 17 June against Croatia, followed by matches against Ghana and Panama in Group L. The friendlies in the US are a crucial part of their preparation for the tournament.
