Liz Truss to Launch 'Uncensored' Social Media Platform

Former Prime Minister Liz Truss has announced plans to launch her own social media platform this summer, which she says will champion free speech and counter the influence of mainstream media and the 'deep state'. Speaking at a cryptocurrency conference in Bedford, Truss claimed she was 'cut off at the knees' by 'the elite' during her brief tenure in No 10, and argued that a new media network is needed to communicate with the public and build a grassroots movement demanding change.

Truss compared the suppression of certain issues in Britain to practices in the Soviet Union, stating that 'this is the kind of thing that we used to see going on in the Soviet Union and it's now happening to us'. She described her planned platform as 'uncensored and uncancellable', designed to discuss topics that mainstream outlets avoid. The move aligns Truss with figures like Donald Trump and Elon Musk, whom she has openly supported in their efforts to reduce state spending.

The former PM's venture follows the model of Trump's Truth Social, operated by the Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG), which reported losses of $400.9m (£303.5m) last year. However, the track record for similar initiatives by UK politicians is poor. Former Health Secretary Matt Hancock closed his Matt Hancock app in 2023 after five years, and former Tory MP Louise Mensch's Twitter competitor Menshn folded within a year of its 2012 launch.
