Trump's Easter Absence and Explosive Iran Threats Ignite Health Concerns
US President Donald Trump has sparked a major controversy by missing three traditional Easter Sunday services, choosing instead to deliver a profanity-laced tirade against Iran that has triggered severe backlash and intensified scrutiny over his mental fitness.
Easter Services Skipped Amid Washington Tour
The 79-year-old president opted out of attending services at St. John's Episcopal Church in Lafayette Square, known as the "Church of the Presidents," where Easter ceremonies were held at 8am, 9am, and 11am. Instead, Trump embarked on what observers described as a "ceremoniously slow" tour around Memorial Circle in Washington DC, further fueling speculation about his health and priorities.
During his morning, Trump also made a stop at Trump National Golf Club in Sterling, Virginia, deviating from the religious observances typically expected of a sitting president on one of Christianity's most significant holidays.
Violent Threats and Bizarre Social Media Post
The president's absence from Easter services was compounded by an alarming series of threats directed at Iran. In a 15-minute phone call with Fox News reporter Trey Yingst, Trump reportedly stated, "if they don't make a deal, and fast, I'm considering blowing everything up and taking over the oil," adding that Iran would see "bridges and power plants dropping all over their country."
Trump amplified these threats on his Truth Social platform with a post that read: "Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!!" The message continued with explicit language: "Open the F***ing' Strait, you crazy b*****ds, or you'll be living in Hell - JUST WATCH!" The post concluded bizarrely with "Praise be to Allah. President DONALD J. TRUMP," creating a stark contrast with the Christian holiday he was skipping.
Widespread Condemnation and Mental State Questions
The president's behavior has drawn fierce criticism from across the political spectrum, with numerous figures questioning his mental stability. Outspoken broadcaster Piers Morgan responded bluntly: "This is embarrassing. Delete it, President - unless you want everyone to think you've lost your marbles."
Even former Trump supporter and Republican congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene called for intervention, stating that Trump's behavior was "not making America great again, this is evil" and urging members of the administration to "intervene in Trump's madness."
Political Leaders Sound Alarm
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer characterized Trump's outburst as resembling that of "an unhinged madman," posting on social media: "Happy Easter, America. As you head off to church and celebrate with friends and family, the President of the United States is ranting like an unhinged madman on social media. He's threatening possible war crimes and alienating allies."
Independent Senator Bernie Sanders went further, branding the statements "dangerous and mentally unbalanced" and calling for immediate congressional action to end the war in Iran. Senator Chris Murphy suggested cabinet members should be consulting constitutional lawyers about invoking the 25th Amendment, which addresses presidential disability, describing Trump's behavior as "completely, utterly unhinged" and warning of potential for further loss of life.
The combination of Trump's absence from Easter observances and his violent, erratic communications has created a perfect storm of concern about presidential stability at a time of international tension, raising unprecedented questions about leadership and mental fitness at the highest levels of American government.
