Tottenham Eye Rashford as Barcelona Balk at Permanent Transfer Fee
Tottenham Eye Rashford as Barcelona Balk at Fee

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing Marcus Rashford this summer if the Manchester United loanee does not join Barcelona permanently. Rashford's loan spell at Barcelona concludes at the end of the 2025/26 season, and his future remains uncertain.

Rashford's Desire for Barcelona

The 28-year-old has made no secret of his wish to join Barcelona on a permanent deal, having contributed 13 goals and 13 assists in 45 appearances for Hansi Flick's side. He has no intention of returning to Manchester United.

Barcelona's Hesitation

Despite his impressive performances, Barcelona are dragging their heels in negotiations. They are unwilling to pay the £26 million fee required to make his loan permanent and are keen to agree a fresh loan deal for the 2026/27 season due to their well-documented financial problems.

Manchester United want a permanent transfer for their academy graduate, who still has two years left on a contract worth £325,000 a week. They are standing firm, and the stalemate could open the door for other interested parties.

Tottenham's Interest

Catalan outlet Sport reports that Tottenham have shown 'genuine interest' in signing Rashford and could complicate matters if they avoid relegation from the Premier League. Spurs currently sit 18th, two points from safety, with four matches left to play.

Barcelona's Priorities

Barcelona are prioritising a move for Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez this summer and are wary of overspending on Rashford, who is not seen as a replacement for veteran centre-forward Robert Lewandowski. Atletico manager Diego Simeone confirmed on Tuesday that Barcelona are among the clubs chasing Alvarez.

"It's normal that an extraordinary player like Julian Alvarez is wanted by Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona," Simeone said. "It's normal because he's very good."

Rashford's Calm Approach

Rashford is understood to be staying calm as he tries to secure a dream move to Barcelona, where he has settled well and is enjoying life. He has a good relationship with Flick and hopes the German manager's influence will be a significant factor.

Manchester United's Summer Plans

United are set for a hugely significant summer transfer window, with the club hiring a new long-term manager to succeed Ruben Amorim while overhauling their squad. They want to fund the signing of an elite central midfielder through player sales, with Rashford on the transfer list alongside fellow loanees Rasmus Hojlund, Jadon Sancho, and Andre Onana.

It is in United's interests to secure a deal for Rashford as soon as possible, but Barcelona sporting director Deco is likely to try to negotiate a lower fee if a loan is off the table.
