Reform Activist With Racist Past Now Election Agent

A Reform UK activist who was suspended over racist and antisemitic comments has been named as the election agent for three of the party's candidates in the Tameside area for the 7 May polls. Adam Mitula, previously an interim campaign manager, confirmed in February that he had been suspended pending investigation after evidence emerged of him using a racial slur and making derogatory remarks about Jewish women.

According to a notice of election document published last Thursday, Mitula is now the election agent for Reform candidates Aron Webb, Audra Murray and Daniel Bennett, who are standing in three wards in Tameside. Mitula also appeared to agree with a Holocaust denier that the number of Jewish people murdered by the Nazis had been exaggerated, though he later said his remarks were taken out of context.

His reappearance comes after a series of axings, suspensions and resignations of senior Reform UK figures, including candidates in Scotland and Wales, as well as Chris Parry, the party's Hampshire mayoral candidate, and Simon Dudley, its housing spokesperson. Reform UK and Mitula have been approached for comment.

Jackie Olden, the Green party candidate in Denton South, one of the wards where Mitula is involved, criticised the party's approach, saying: 'Time and again, we have seen a pattern of commentary and behaviour from the Reform leadership that aims to normalise division in our communities.'

The allegations against Mitula were based on information gathered by the anti-racism group Hope Not Hate. Posts from an X account associated with Mitula, since deleted, included suggestions that '60-70%' of transgender people were paedophiles, that he would 'never touch a Jewish woman', and use of the N-word. The Guardian also found tweets where Mitula claimed there were 'Muslim no-go ghettoes in the UK' and made derogatory comments about black fathers.
