Meghan McCain Condemns Lindsey Graham's Disney World Vacation During National Crises
Meghan McCain has publicly called out Senator Lindsey Graham, a longtime family friend of her late father, for enjoying a Disney World vacation while the Department of Homeland Security remains shut down and tensions escalate with Iran. The Republican senator from South Carolina was photographed at the Florida theme park over the weekend, engaging in various recreational activities while critical government functions were suspended.
Disney Getaway Amid Government Shutdown and Iran Tensions
Senator Graham, aged 70, was captured on camera at Disney World during a period marked by Donald Trump's escalating conflict with Iran and a partial government shutdown. According to images obtained by TMZ, the senator was seen riding Space Mountain, strolling through Magic Kingdom while holding a bubble wand, and enjoying brunch at Chef Mickey's restaurant. These leisure activities occurred while the Department of Homeland Security faced funding issues and international tensions mounted.
McCain, who once described Graham as being like an "uncle" to her, expressed her disapproval through social media posts. "South Carolina is a very proper, cultured, extremely influential and important state in American politics," wrote the 41-year-old commentator. "They can do so much better than Lindsey Graham holding a bubble wand at Disney World to represent their state."
Social Media Criticism and Political Backlash
The former co-host of The View amplified her criticism through multiple social media engagements. McCain reshared several posts mocking Graham's Disney excursion, including a Daily Wire article that labeled him "the world's saddest Disney adult." She also reposted commentary from right-wing commentator Matt Walsh, who stated: "While our country is at war, our airports are a mess, DHS is not funded, and our elections are not secure, Lindsey Graham is wandering around Disney World with a bubble wand. This is an image that should live in infamy."
McCain continued her criticism on Tuesday, encouraging TMZ to increase its coverage of politicians' activities, specifically mentioning Graham. Representatives for Senator Graham did not immediately respond to requests for comment regarding McCain's remarks about his Disney vacation.
Graham's Defense and Complicated Family History
Senator Graham has defended his Disney World trip by explaining that he was in Florida for official business. He claimed the theme park visit occurred only after "meeting in South Florida on Friday with Trump official Steve Witkoff and others to talk about the possibility of normalization between Saudi Arabia and Israel."
The relationship between McCain and Graham has grown increasingly strained since the death of her father, Senator John McCain, in 2018. The late Arizona senator was one of Graham's closest friends on Capitol Hill, with the two politicians working together during McCain's 2008 presidential campaign. Graham even campaigned for McCain during his 2015 presidential bid.
However, after her father's death from brain cancer at age 81, McCain distanced herself from Graham due to his alignment with Donald Trump. In 2021, she wrote on social media: "Lindsey Graham may consider himself a member of my family, but he is not and hasn't been for a very long time. He certainly doesn't speak for me or my life experiences. Full stop. The media should stop treating him like he is an expert on anything McCain related."
Recent Warnings About Graham's Influence
Earlier this month, McCain issued warnings to Trump administration officials about Graham's advocacy for military action against Iran. "I've known Lindsey Graham since I was a child," McCain wrote on social media. "I am imploring anyone who will listen in the Trump administration to stop sending this man out as a surrogate. He is scaring people and doing damage to whatever message you're trying to sell to the American public about the Iran war."
The public criticism of Graham's Disney World vacation represents the latest chapter in the deteriorating relationship between McCain and the South Carolina senator, highlighting how political differences have fractured what was once a close family friendship.
