Deliveroo has introduced a new restaurant booking feature within its app, marking a significant expansion beyond its core food delivery service. The new Deliveroo Reservations function enables customers to browse real-time availability at hundreds of top London restaurants and secure tables directly through the platform.
How the New Feature Works
The feature leverages technology from booking platform SevenRooms and includes a "notify me" option that alerts users when a fully booked restaurant receives a last-minute cancellation. Initially rolling out across London, Deliveroo plans to extend the service to other parts of the UK later this year.
Hundreds of prestigious London restaurants are now available for booking, including sought-after venues such as Dishoom, Dove, Hide, Kricket, Barrafina, Kolae, and Murano. The platform can handle group bookings of up to eight people.
Strategic Expansion
This move follows Deliveroo's acquisition by US firm DoorDash for £2.9 billion last year, combining two major food delivery platforms to create a global presence in over 40 countries. DoorDash had already introduced restaurant bookings on its US platform late last year.
Suzy McClintock, VP Consumer and New Verticals at Deliveroo, commented: "This launch is about supporting restaurants to grow in new ways. Whether it's a Deliveroo order or a reservation in-store, we want to drive discovery, demand and revenue across every channel. By fully integrating SevenRooms into the Deliveroo app, we're giving restaurants access to new customers and giving diners an easier way to discover and book some of London's best tables – all in one place."
Joel Montaniel, VP, Head of SevenRooms & Co-founder, added: "Restaurants thrive on the relationships they build with their guests. Bringing reservations into the Deliveroo app gives London restaurants a new way to connect with diners and grow, while making it easy for consumers to discover and book great restaurants."
Financial Performance
In its last trading update, Deliveroo reported a surge in sales and customer orders for the first half of 2025, though it swung to a loss ahead of the DoorDash takeover. Gross transaction value (GTV) reached £3.8 billion for the first six months of the year, 9% higher than the same period a year ago at constant currency rates. GTV was 10% higher in the UK and Ireland. The total number of orders across its global markets was 147 million, 8% higher than the previous year.
However, Deliveroo slipped to a loss of £19.2 million for the period, compared with a £1.3 million profit the prior year, primarily due to costs related to the DoorDash acquisition.
