Republican Congresswoman Lauren Boebert has launched her re-election campaign for a fourth term in the US House with an unusual fundraising pitch focused on UFOs. In an email to potential donors, Boebert pledged to pursue 'the truth about UFOs', accusing the government of shrouding the topic in secrecy and dismissing the public as naive.
The email, sent by Boebert's campaign, stated: 'For decades, our government has shrouded the truth about UFOs in a veil of secrecy. Strange crafts have been spotted soaring through our skies, defying the laws of physics, and yet the bureaucrats in Washington act like we’re too NAIVE to handle the facts.' It added: 'They tell us we’re crazy like we can’t see these things flying through the air with our own eyes.'
Democratic political analyst Andy Boian interpreted the message as 'almost a cry for help', suggesting that outlandish ads are often used when candidates are desperate for money or voter support. However, he noted that Boebert currently lacks such desperation. Boebert's campaign dismissed the criticism, claiming the message is performing well among donors.
Boebert has previously demonstrated a focus on UFOs, also known as unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAPs). At a congressional hearing in November 2024, she asked whether there was evidence of a secret underwater alien base, referencing the fact that only about 5% of the ocean has been studied. Journalist Michael Shellenberger replied that he had not heard of such a base but recounted a source describing an orb emerging from the ocean.
Boebert narrowly won her second term in 2022 by 546 votes and secured a third term in 2024 after moving to a more conservative district. Her latest campaign strategy has drawn both criticism and attention as she seeks re-election in the 2026 midterms.
