AOC Accuses Trump of Using Iran Conflict as Epstein Scandal Distraction
New York Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has launched a scathing critique of President Donald Trump, alleging that his recent military actions against Iran are a deliberate attempt to shift public focus away from the ongoing Jeffrey Epstein scandal. In a fiery statement, she warned that this strategy risks plunging the world into a catastrophic war.
Impulsive Actions and Global Instability
Speaking to MeidasTouch in Washington, D.C., Ocasio-Cortez condemned Trump's foreign policy decisions, describing them as impulsive and lacking any coherent exit strategy. "He impulsively went in on Venezuela. He impulsively went in on Iran. There was no exit and no endgame for either of these situations. It led to increased global instability everywhere he goes," she asserted.
The progressive lawmaker drew a direct connection between these military escalations and developments in the Epstein case. "Every time he's done that, it has been consistent with a spike or a revelation in what is happening with the Epstein files. I don't think that that coincidence is something to dismiss off the cuff. I think that he feels existentially tied to it," Ocasio-Cortez added.
Call for Removal from Office
Ocasio-Cortez argued that Trump's alleged preoccupation with the Epstein scandal poses a grave threat to national security. "If the Epstein files have such a hold on President Trump and this administration that they are willing to plunge us and risk world war in order to save themselves politically, that is... the definition of someone that cannot make objective decisions for the American people," she declared, emphasizing that this justifies his removal from office.
While Trump has not been formally accused of any wrongdoing related to Epstein, questions persist about their past friendship, which dates back to the 1990s and early 2000s. The president claims they had a bitter falling out, but the association continues to fuel speculation.
Bipartisan Criticism and Congressional Scrutiny
Ocasio-Cortez is not alone in her accusations. Kentucky Republican Representative Thomas Massie, who played a key role in passing the Epstein Files Transparency Act in November, echoed similar sentiments on social media. "PSA: Bombing a country on the other side of the globe won't make the Epstein files go away, any more than the Dow going above 50,000 will," he posted.
Former GOP congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene also launched a lengthy attack on Trump, criticizing his handling of the Epstein case and questioning the motives behind the Iran conflict. "For years we demanded to release the Epstein files, demanding transparency and justice... and we had to fight Trump himself to do it," she stated, lamenting the lack of accountability.
The controversy has extended to popular culture, with Saturday Night Live parodying Trump's announcement of Operation Epic Fury, quipping, "War, what is it good for? Distracting from the Epstein files!"
Ongoing Investigations and Transparency Concerns
The Department of Justice's release of investigative materials on Epstein, mandated by the Epstein Files Transparency Act, has faced criticism for excessive redactions and a chaotic publication process in late December and January. Survivors of Epstein's sexual abuse have voiced frustration over these issues.
In related developments, the Republican-led House Oversight Committee has announced that Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick will voluntarily testify before its members. Lutnick has denied any wrongdoing and has never been accused of a crime associated with Epstein. Additionally, Attorney General Pam Bondi has been subpoenaed to discuss the DOJ's handling of the 3.5 million files.
As tensions escalate, the intersection of military action and scandal continues to dominate political discourse, with lawmakers on both sides of the aisle raising alarms about the potential consequences of Trump's strategies.
