Trump Defends Iran Deal Amid Republican Criticism

Donald Trump has defended himself against criticism from fellow Republicans as he appears close to agreeing a deal with Iran to end the war. Hawks within his own party have called the proposed agreement a disaster, questioning why the US president launched the conflict in the first place.

In a series of social media posts on Sunday, Trump claimed his deal would be 'THE EXACT OPPOSITE' of the one agreed by Barack Obama, which Trump pulled out of in 2018. He insisted he was not rushing into an agreement, stating 'both sides must take their time to get it right … There can be no mistakes!'

Trump also emphasised that 'the US blockade of Iran’s ports will remain in full force and effect until an agreement is reached, certified, and signed.' He added that 'nobody has seen' the deal 'or knows what it is,' as it 'isn’t even fully negotiated yet.'
