Three More Charged Over Southampton Protests After Henry Nowak Murder

Three additional individuals have been charged with violent disorder following protests in Southampton earlier this week, bringing the total number of people charged to 14, Hampshire Police have confirmed.

Darren Medhurst, 36, of Carnation Road, Southampton; Jordan Hambleton, 19, of Rollesbrook Gardens, Southampton; and Callum Darch, 27, of St Blaize Road, Romsey, are all set to appear at Southampton Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

The charges stem from protests that erupted after the sentencing of Vickrum Digwa, 23, who was given a life sentence with a minimum of 21 years for the murder of 18-year-old Henry Nowak in December. Anger was sparked following the release of police body-worn video showing Mr Nowak being handcuffed moments before losing consciousness and dying.

Digwa had claimed he was the victim of a racial attack, while Mr Nowak was handcuffed by police and allegedly ignored when he said he could not breathe as he lay dying. The protests took place near the location where the student was fatally stabbed.
