Cybertruck driver accused of drink driving in crash that killed woman in Florida

A 21-year-old man has been charged with DUI manslaughter after allegedly driving a Tesla Cybertruck at 97mph and killing a mother in Florida. Dayron Ramirez-Mesa turned himself in to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office on Thursday.

The crash occurred on December 14 at around 8 a.m. in Kendale Lakes. Ramirez-Mesa was allegedly driving a 2025 Cybertruck at high speed, running a red light and striking two vehicles that were making legal left turns. Dayana Abreu Perez, 40, was driving one of the vehicles and died from her injuries at a local hospital.

Deputies reported smelling alcohol on Ramirez-Mesa’s breath and noted his watery, bloodshot eyes. Blood samples taken from him showed alcohol levels of .180, .103, and .081, all above Florida's legal limit of .08. Data from the Cybertruck’s recorder indicated a speed of 97mph three seconds before impact, more than double the 40mph limit.

Ramirez-Mesa faces charges including DUI manslaughter, vehicular homicide, reckless driving, and DUI with property damage. In court on Friday, his attorney argued for release due to his lack of prior criminal record. Prosecutors opposed, citing the egregious nature of the crime. Judge Mindy Glazer set bond at $75,000 with house arrest and a driving prohibition, stating, “I think he should personally be held no bond, he killed somebody because he was driving drunk.”
