Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood has revealed he is living in a caravan to cut costs while renovating his £2 million home. The 61-year-old, who has been a staple of the beloved BBC show since its inception in 2004, is currently undertaking extensive renovations at his impressive mansion in King's Cliffe, Northamptonshire. Until the work is complete, Horwood has adopted unconventional living arrangements.
Speaking to the Daily Mail's Eden Confidential column, he said: 'I am living in a caravan at the moment. It's cheaper than storage.' The property, which he purchased for £1.8 million in 2021, is now believed to be worth around £2 million following the renovation works.
Renovation Progress
In September 2025, Horwood shared a glimpse of the property's current state on Instagram, showing rubble and a gutted interior. He told Country and Town House magazine in 2025: 'It's in the demolition stage and then the first bit will begin in a month. I think we're looking at August next year, which is alarming. I'm just glad something's happening.'
Party Terrace Approved Despite Neighbour Concerns
Last month, Horwood received planning permission to build a luxury party terrace at his country mansion, despite objections from neighbours who feared noise from his garden gatherings would disturb their peace. The Strictly judge plans to raise the back garden and create an entertainment area complete with a swim spa and hot tub at his seven-bedroom riverside home.
One resident in the village of King's Cliffe complained that noise from his garden parties was already 'excessive' and that the new terrace would worsen the disturbance. In a letter to the council, they stated: 'There is already excessive noise heard from their garden when they regularly entertain. The shape of the land with the trees along the river means residents can easily hear talking and noise from their gardens around the pool area. Raising this terrace area will exacerbate this if no trees or noise reduction is installed along the low walls by their gates.'
Despite the protests, planners at North Northamptonshire Council approved the scheme, ruling that it would not cause 'unacceptable harm to neighbours'. The decision allows Horwood, who lives with his partner Jonathan Myring, 39, to proceed with his ambitious garden makeover.
Additional Garden Plans
Horwood also plans to install a new gravel driveway, demolish an existing garage to create a 'meadow', and build a new 'recreational area'. Cars will be moved to the new gravel drive, despite the property being in a flood zone where there is a 'residual risk of them travelling over land through the garden and becoming stranded in vegetation'.
His sprawling home sits on 2.2 acres and includes a lake and pond. It lies within a conservation area in King's Cliffe, a village whose history dates back to the Domesday Book.
Previous Renovation Works
Horwood had previously won permission for major upgrades including a larger entrance hall, gym, master bedroom, butler's kitchen, wine store, and snug. Speaking about the extensive overhaul, he said: 'I've lived in it for four years but it took a year to know what to do with it, and then a year to get the architects to develop it, and then a year to get planning. I had no intention of leaving it as it was; it was very higgledy-piggledy: the staircase was in the wrong position, the kitchen was in the wrong room, the living room would never be used as it was. And it was all on different levels, which I wanted to get sorted.'
Strictly Come Dancing 2026
Earlier this month, it was reported that former Neighbours star Delta Goodrem has been signed up for Strictly Come Dancing 2026. A source told the Daily Mail's Eden Confidential column: 'It is all but a done deal. They've been trying to get her for years. Obviously, she is a good name for the show.'
