Rebekah Vardy has claimed she was treated "worse than a paedophile" during the fallout from the Wagatha Christie libel case with Coleen Rooney. In a new interview, the 44-year-old said she questioned her existence at her lowest points, adding: "I was treated worse than a paedophile and for what? Was it that important? Was it in the public interest?"
Vardy lost the libel case in 2022 and was ordered to pay £1.4 million in legal costs. She revealed that Rooney's side had offered to settle out of court, but she declined. Speaking about the ordeal, she said: "If I hadn’t been as strong as I am, I probably wouldn’t be here today."
The mother of five said watching a documentary about Caroline Flack, who died by suicide in 2020, terrified her. "There’s a lesson there: stay very close to the people who really know and love you, otherwise you’re risking mental torture like you can’t imagine," she said.
Vardy, who is launching a new show with her husband Jamie titled The Vardys, said she has accepted being "marmite" but insisted she is not a victim. "I do come across as cold, but when you look at the bigger picture there’s a reason. At the same time, I am not a victim. I will not play the victim card," she said.
