A suspected new Banksy artwork has appeared in a prime London location, drawing crowds of onlookers. The sculpture was installed on a plinth in Waterloo Place, depicting a suited man mid-stride towards the edge, with his vision obscured by a fluttering flag.
Signature and Verification
Banksy's signature is engraved on the back of the plinth, though the artist has not yet confirmed the artwork through any official channels or social media accounts. This follows a recent investigation that claimed to have uncovered the 'real' identity of the Bristol-based artist.
Identity Claims
According to reports, Banksy is allegedly a pseudonym of Robin Gunningham, who changed his legal name to David Jones. News agency Reuters examined statements from Banksy and close associates, interviewed a dozen insiders and experts, and unearthed previously undisclosed US court records and police reports in an attempt to unmask the artist.
However, Banksy's long-time lawyer, Mark Stephens, wrote to Reuters stating that the artist “does not accept that many of the details contained within your enquiry are correct.” It was also claimed that Banksy asked Reuters not to publish the report, arguing it would violate his privacy, interfere with his art, and put him in danger.
Public Reaction
The sculpture has attracted significant attention, with crowds gathering to view and photograph the piece. The artwork's location in Waterloo Place, a central London spot, ensures high visibility and foot traffic.
