NBC's long-running Sunday public-affairs programme 'Meet the Press' is expanding into live events. Moderator Kristen Welker will host the first 'Meet the Moment LIVE' at City Winery in New York City on June 29, featuring a conversation with actress and mental health advocate Taraji P. Henson.
The event, with approximately 400 tickets available, aims to broaden the show's traditional political focus. 'Meet the Moment' segments, introduced under Welker, explore wider societal issues such as grief, infertility, and sports, with past guests including Olivia Munn, Michael Phelps, and Martin Luther King III.
Welker noted that while the show will continue its core political coverage, many topics like public health impact politics and culture. Executive producer David Gelles highlighted that 'Meet the Moment' segments have never lost a Sunday in the key demographic, attracting new viewers.
The live event is part of NBC News' strategy to develop new revenue streams through ticketed gatherings and advertising partnerships, following similar moves by 'Sunday Today' and 'Today'. Gelles sees this as 'part of the future of Meet the Press', building on the show's history of expanding into podcasts, MSNBC editions, and film festivals.
