A former teacher at Hutchesons' Grammar School in Glasgow has been sentenced to three years in prison for creating child abuse videos involving girls as young as nine. Craig Wood, 52, admitted three charges related to indecent images of children, including making videos of the victims performing sex acts on webcam and exposing himself to them.
Paisley Sheriff Court heard that Wood, who also previously taught at Paisley Grammar, used his knowledge of online activities gained from his job to target children aged nine to 15. He chatted with them online and then 'rewarded' them by exposing himself. Police found nearly 1,000 indecent images on his computer, with some videos lasting up to two hours.
Sheriff Susan Sinclair condemned Wood, stating he had used his experience of youngsters' online activities to target them. She said: 'Over a period of two-and-a-half years you were able to contact females between the age of nine and 15... as a result of information sent by you.' Wood was placed on the Sex Offenders' Register for life.
A spokesperson for Hutchesons' Grammar School confirmed Wood was immediately suspended when charges emerged, adding that Police Scotland advised no pupils or staff were at risk. Detective Inspector Tom Carty of the Public Protection Unit warned: 'No matter how clever you think you are... we will track you down.'
