Songwriting legend Linda Perry is set to be honoured with a special international award at the 2026 Ivor Novello Awards. The 61-year-old US musician, best known as the lead singer and guitarist of 4 Non Blondes and the songwriter behind hits like 'What's Up?' and 'Beautiful', will receive the accolade for her profound influence on the UK music industry.
The announcement coincides with the release of an Amazon Music mini-documentary, Anatomy Of An Earworm, which explores the creation of her hit song 'Beautiful', famously performed by Christina Aguilera. Perry expressed her gratitude, stating: 'It is an honour to be recognised for my songwriting contributions at the 71st Ivor Novello Awards. So many incredible artists have been celebrated, and I am humbled to be standing alongside them.'
Rise to Fame with 4 Non Blondes
Born in Massachusetts, Perry first rose to prominence as the driving force behind the alternative rock band 4 Non Blondes. The group achieved a UK top 10 hit with 'What's Up?', a song that became an anthem of the 1990s. Perry also penned other tracks for the band, including 'Spaceman', 'Dear Mr President', and 'Pleasantly Blue'.
Prolific Songwriting Career
Beyond her work with 4 Non Blondes, Perry has forged an extraordinary career as a songwriter for some of the biggest names in pop music. Her compositions include Christina Aguilera's 'Beautiful', P!nk's 'Get The Party Started', and Gwen Stefani's 'What You Waiting For?'. She has also written for Alicia Keys, Celine Dion, Miley Cyrus, Adele, and Ariana Grande.
Tom Gray, chairman of The Ivors Academy, praised Perry's distinctive style: 'With defiance, vulnerability and honesty, Linda's songwriting is instantly recognisable. She has continuously captured both hearts and the airwaves. You just know her songs will endure and continue to resonate.' Roberto Neri, chief executive of The Ivors Academy, added: 'Linda Perry's songwriting continues to have a profound impact on global popular culture. We are proud to honour her with the special international award at The Ivors, celebrating her incredible music and authentic craft.'
Upcoming Album and Awards Ceremony
In other news, Perry recently announced her first solo album in 25 years, Let It Die Here, which is scheduled for release on 8 May. Her upcoming accolade follows Spanish singer-songwriter Rosalia being named international songwriter of the year at the prestigious awards ceremony. The 71st Ivor Novello Awards will take place at Grosvenor House in London on 21 May, where the winners across the event's main categories will be unveiled.
