A social media influencer with a history of refusing to pay restaurant bills is now facing eviction from her Brooklyn apartment by her landlord - disgraced former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer.
The Rent Dispute and Eviction
According to court records obtained by the Daily Mail, Pei 'Lu' Chung, 34, stopped paying rent for her $3,350-a-month studio apartment in 2023, with her lease expiring in August 2024. She now owes more than $40,000 in back rent and has been ordered by a judge to vacate the premises by December 1.
Spitzer, who resigned as governor in 2008 after a high-profile prostitution scandal, now runs his family's real estate business. When asked about Chung's restaurant antics, he joked to the New York Post: 'Here's the thing that annoys me: I tried to get reservations at some of those restaurants and I couldn't.'
Chung moved into the Williamsburg apartment in July 2021 and has frequently filmed content there showcasing luxury brands including Cartier, Louis Vuitton, Dior and Burberry.
Neighbourhood Disruption and Bizarre Behaviour
Three neighbours described Chung as a disruptive presence whose behaviour escalated dramatically over time. One neighbour, identified only as Will, told the Daily Mail that while Chung initially kept to herself, by winter 2022 her behaviour became increasingly erratic.
Will claimed Chung would play music so loudly that his walls shook and furniture rattled, often waking him in the middle of the night. 'It was intentional,' he said. 'She'd bang in all different areas - the bathroom, the main room. You could tell she'd pushed the speaker right up to my wall.'
The situation escalated to disturbing levels when Chung allegedly began leaving strange items outside Will's door, including used face masks and plastic gloves. In one particularly unsettling incident, Will discovered his name written in red lipstick on his door around midnight.
Other residents reported Chung attempting to enter other apartments uninvited, with one incident involving her walking into a male resident's bedroom while he slept.
Restaurant Arrests and Legal Troubles
Chung's housing crisis coincides with her legal troubles involving New York restaurants. She has been arrested seven times in less than a month for allegedly dining at upscale establishments and refusing to pay her bills.
Her alleged dine-and-dash spree began in late October at the ritzy restaurant Francie, where she ordered foie gras, carpaccio, bucatini, lamb and chocolate mousse totalling $188. According to owner John Winterman, she attempted to barter pictures and a blog post in exchange for the meal.
Similar incidents followed at establishments including Peter Luger's Steak House, where she allegedly ran up a $146 bill and, according to management, offered sexual favours instead of payment.
Most recently, staff at multiple restaurants have recognised Chung from media coverage and asked her to leave before she could order. She faces multiple charges of theft of services and is due in court in December - just days after her scheduled eviction.
Building manager Bob Jenny confirmed that removing Chung is 'high on our priority list', noting that NYPD has been called to the building multiple times with 'little long-term improvement' in her behaviour.
