Ioan Gruffudd has successfully renewed a domestic violence restraining order against his ex-wife Alice Evans for five years, following a week-long court case in Los Angeles. The judge described Evans's social media campaign against the actor and his new wife, Bianca Wallace, as a 'concerted, focused, intentional and caustic campaign of denigration'.
The court heard that Evans, who appeared in The Vampire Diaries and Lost, had violated the original order multiple times by sharing negative comments online. She expressed being 'ashamed and regretful' of her actions, but the judge questioned the sincerity of her remorse, stating he was 'not persuaded' it was genuine.
Judge Convey noted that Evans's 'pattern of abuse' included threats of force and intimidation, which caused Gruffudd and Wallace to fear for their physical safety. He also acknowledged that her actions were intended to harm Gruffudd economically and damage his career. The order requires Evans to stay at least 100 feet away from the couple and refrain from mentioning them on social media until 2031.
During the trial, Gruffudd, 52, testified that he was 'disturbed' and 'anxious' over Evans's alleged threats to 'destroy' him, including a reference to 'Amber Heard' him. He said Evans had repeatedly warned she would make false public accusations and sell false stories to the press if he left her. Evans had previously denied these allegations in 2022.
In July 2024, Evans claimed she had been left destitute and was applying for food stamps, earning only $300 a month in royalties. She said she was struggling to support their two daughters, whom Gruffudd has not seen for two years, according to Evans. The judge urged the pair to find a way to co-parent for the sake of their children.
Gruffudd and Evans married in 2007 and separated in January 2021, finalising their divorce in 2023. Gruffudd is known for roles in Titanic, Hornblower, and as Mr Fantastic in the 2005 Fantastic Four film.
