Gladiators Star Giant Claims BBC 'Let Him Down' Over Axing

Former Gladiators star Giant, whose real name is Jamie Bigg, has said he feels 'let down' by the BBC after being dropped from the show following his relationship with an OnlyFans creator. The 40-year-old bodybuilder had been a regular on the revived BBC series for three years, but it was confirmed six days ago that he would not return for the fourth season.

In an interview with The Metro, Jamie said he expected more support from the show's producers when the issue was raised. 'I wasn’t expecting that reaction [from the BBC] to be honest. I do feel let down by certain individuals, certain people, certain teams,' he shared. He stressed that his partner's work producing adult content is only one small aspect of her life, and that she is involved in several charitable causes, including supporting homeless people and fostering dogs.

Jamie first revealed his perspective on the reason for his departure during an appearance on Good Morning Britain, where he said he was given an ultimatum after beginning his relationship with Taylor Ryan, who has an account on the adult subscription platform OnlyFans. He explained that producers had previously been aware of the relationship, but after a few conversations behind closed doors, they informed him that his contract would not be renewed for the next season.

The athlete suggested that the BBC's attitudes towards platforms such as OnlyFans may not have kept pace with modern social changes. 'I think some organisations have some archaic views,' he said. Jamie also feels the decision was unfair for viewers who enjoyed watching him on Gladiators. 'I feel like there's a big injustice here for fans of the show that haven't been given a voice or a decision in this matter,' he told Susanna Reid and Ed Balls.

Despite this, Jamie has tried to remain positive and confirmed he is still close with his former fellow Gladiators, describing them as a 'family'. He admitted he would consider returning if circumstances changed, noting that the role had been a lifelong ambition after growing up watching the original series in the 1990s.

A Gladiators spokesperson said: 'After three formidable series, Giant is leaving Gladiators. We'd like to thank him for everything he has contributed to the show and wish him well for the future.'
