Paedophile Gary Glitter's Debt to Victim Surges to Over £600k

Disgraced paedophile rocker Gary Glitter now owes more than £600,000 to a woman he raped when she was 12, after interest pushed the total up by £110,000. The 82-year-old, real name Paul Gadd, was ordered to pay the survivor £508,000 in June 2024 but claimed to be penniless, despite transferring £138,000 to his son around the same time.

Court papers obtained by the Daily Mirror reveal the total debt stands at £618,000, including interest. Glitter was declared bankrupt last year after failing to hand over the compensation, and the victim's lawyers are now trying to seize his assets. A judge last week extended his bankruptcy period for a year to allow investigators more time to search for assets.

Legal proceedings uncovered that Glitter has received at least £988,891 in royalties since 1996. Judge CJ Taylor at Bristol County Court said it had become clear that Glitter has assets, including significant funds in an account between 2006 and 2008 and transfers to a Swiss bank. Trustees reported attempts to divert assets, including requests that pension payments go to his son.

Glitter was released from prison in 2023 halfway through a 16-year sentence for sexually abusing three girls but was recalled within weeks for allegedly downloading child images. He claimed all his income, including royalties, has gone into Machmain Limited since 1989, and he transferred his shares to a Caribbean tax haven firm in 2005 after being arrested in Vietnam for child sex offences.
