DeChambeau Shocked by LIV Funding Cut, Plans YouTube

Bryson DeChambeau has expressed his astonishment at the sudden cessation of funding for LIV Golf by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF), which has thrown the future of the breakaway series into uncertainty beyond the current season. The two-time major winner, one of LIV Golf's marquee names, told ESPN that he would redirect his focus towards expanding his YouTube channel, which already boasts 2.69 million subscribers and has featured high-profile guests such as Donald Trump, should LIV Golf not continue.

Funding Shock and Contract Expiry

DeChambeau, whose contract with LIV Golf expires at the end of this season, admitted he was “completely shocked” by the PIF's decision. He had previously been assured that funding was secured until 2032. Despite an earlier opportunity to return to the PGA Tour, DeChambeau chose to remain with LIV Golf, but now faces an uncertain future.

Hope for Golf Unification

In the wake of the funding cut, DeChambeau expressed hope that the situation might lead to a unification of golf's various tours. He envisions a “Kumbaya moment” where LIV Golf develops a robust business model that could interest the PGA Tour and DP World Tour in combining forces. DeChambeau believes that the current team franchises within LIV are profitable enough to be sold for significant sums, potentially paving the way for a more cohesive professional golf landscape.

As LIV Golf seeks new investors to replace the PIF's funding, DeChambeau's plans underscore the uncertainty facing players and the sport as a whole. His YouTube channel, already a successful venture, could become his primary focus if the breakaway series fails to secure its future.
