Former England rugby captain Lawrence Dallaglio is facing an extended bankruptcy period after a new insolvency hearing over a £500,000 tax bill. The 53-year-old was declared bankrupt last year and lost his family home, which sold for £2.4 million after being listed at £3.3 million.
Dallaglio divorced his wife Alice following the bankruptcy and was ordered to hand over proceeds from the mansion sale to pay off loans exceeding £366,500. He owed £423,570 in overdrawn loans from his sports business, Lawrence Dallaglio Ltd, plus over £60,000 to liquidators when the company dissolved two years ago.
Despite these setbacks, Dallaglio moved into a rented four-bedroom home in St Albans with a new partner, paying £2,750 per month. A neighbour described him as a 'down-to-earth bloke' who had settled in well.
However, his bankruptcy restrictions, typically lasting one year in England, have been extended by three months by mutual consent. Dallaglio stated: 'This was agreed by mutual consent while I continue to work with my trustee in bankruptcy in dealing with my estate.' Reports indicate he owes around £350,000 and £61,000 to HM Revenue & Customs and two other creditors.
