Eric Clapton ended his concert in Madrid early after being struck by a vinyl record thrown from the audience, causing him to skip the planned encore. The incident occurred at the Movistar Arena last week, shortly after the 81-year-old guitarist performed 'Cocaine'.
Video footage shared on social media shows the object hitting Clapton in the chest, causing him to recoil briefly before walking off stage. He did not appear to be injured and later performed in Barcelona on Sunday. A fan on X identified the thrown item as a vinyl record.
Clapton did not return for his usual encore of 'Before You Accuse Me,' which had closed previous shows on the European leg of his 2026 tour. This was his first performance in Madrid in 25 years.
Fans expressed frustration on social media, criticising the audience member responsible. One wrote: 'Waiting more than 20 years for Eric Clapton to come and for some overexcited fan to cut the concert short... He walked off and never came back.'
Clapton's European tour continues with dates in Mannheim, Cologne, and Munich in May, followed by a UK show at Sandringham Estate in August and a US tour starting in September.
